How a Typical Lorry Transport Job Works
A typical example: a distributor needs 3 bags of goods (about 2.6 tonnes and 4.4 CBM) collected from a warehouse inside Northport, Port Klang, and delivered to a factory in Pasir Gudang, Johor, two days later. Here is how we handle it:
- Quotation: you send the cargo weight, CBM, pickup and delivery addresses and the delivery date by WhatsApp or the contact form.
- Truck matching: we recommend a 3-tonne lorry (FTL), because the cargo weight fits its payload and the volume fits its body.
- Port pickup: our driver collects the cargo from the port warehouse with the release documents you provide.
- Delivery: the cargo is delivered to the named contact person in Johor on the agreed date.
- Proof of delivery: you receive delivery confirmation, and you can track the shipment throughout.

Which Lorry Size Do You Need? 3-Tonne, 5-Tonne, 10-Tonne and Above
Choose your lorry by both weight and volume. The usable payload is the BDM minus the BTM, so it is always less than the lorry’s nominal size. As a guide:
| Lorry | Best for | Planning tip |
|---|---|---|
| 3-tonne lorry | Small to medium B2B loads, port pickups of a few pallets or bags, urban deliveries | Popular for Klang Valley and interstate jobs under about 3 tonnes |
| 5-tonne lorry (17-ft body) | Medium loads and multiple pallets | Usually carries up to about 4 tonnes of cargo |
| 10-tonne lorry | Large pallet loads and bulk goods | Ask for confirmation of payload and body length |
| Up to 20-tonne lorry | Heavy industrial cargo and full-factory loads | FTL charter; may need loading-bay planning |
| Refrigerated truck | Chilled or frozen food and pharmaceuticals | Tell us the required temperature range |
FTL vs LTL at a Glance
| Feature | FTL (Full Truckload) | LTL (Less than Truckload) |
|---|---|---|
| Truck use | Whole lorry for your cargo | Shared with other shippers |
| Best for | Large, urgent or high-value loads | Smaller, non-urgent loads |
| Speed | Direct, no extra stops | May include consolidation stops |
| Cost | Fixed charter price | Pay per carton, CBM or pallet |
What Affects the Cost of Lorry Transport in Malaysia?
The price of a lorry transport job is driven by five main factors. Knowing them helps you get an accurate quotation the first time:
- Distance and route: a Klang Valley delivery costs less than an interstate trip to Johor or Penang; tolls and return-trip availability also matter.
- Lorry size and type: a 3-tonne lorry costs less than a 10-tonne or refrigerated truck.
- FTL or LTL: chartering the whole lorry costs more per trip but less per kilogram for large loads; LTL suits smaller loads.
- Cargo weight, volume and handling: heavy, bulky, fragile or oversized cargo may need extra manpower, equipment or escorts.
- Pickup conditions: port pickups, waiting time, after-hours loading and multiple drops can add to the cost.

FAQ
Lorry Transport & Logistics Services
De Hubs runs lorry transport across Peninsular (West) Malaysia: the Klang Valley (Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Port Klang, Shah Alam), the South (Johor Bahru, Pasir Gudang, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan), the North (Penang, Kedah, Perak) and the East Coast (Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan). We also connect to Sabah and Sarawak through our air and sea freight services.
Our fleet of more than 100 trucks includes 3-tonne, 5-tonne and larger lorries of up to 20 tonnes, plus refrigerated trucks for chilled and frozen goods. We match the truck to your cargo weight, volume (CBM) and the loading point, so you don’t pay for space you don’t need.
A lorry’s payload is its BDM (maximum loaded weight) minus its BTM (empty weight), so it is lower than the size suggests. For example, a 5-tonne lorry with a 17-foot body usually carries up to about 4 tonnes of cargo. Send us your weight and CBM and we will recommend the right truck.
FTL (Full Truckload) means you charter the whole lorry for your cargo only. It is faster and more secure, with no stops for other shippers. LTL (Less than Truckload) means your cargo shares the lorry with other shipments, which costs less for smaller loads. De Hubs offers both across West Malaysia.
Rates depend on the cargo type, weight and volume, the pickup and delivery locations, and any special handling. We can charge per carton, per CBM (m³), per pallet or per chartered truck. Share your shipment details on WhatsApp or the contact form for a quotation.
Yes. We regularly collect cargo from warehouses and depots inside Port Klang, including Northport and Westport, for delivery to customers across West Malaysia. Tell us the warehouse, the cargo release details and the delivery date when you book.
Yes. Large machinery often needs escort services to keep the cargo and other road users safe. Our logistics operations team plans the route, loading and escort so oversized goods are delivered safely to the site. Contact us on WhatsApp with the dimensions and weight.
Yes. Our refrigerated trucks have temperature control systems for chilled or frozen goods such as food, pharmaceuticals and other temperature-sensitive cargo, so products arrive in the right condition.
BTM (Berat Tanpa Muatan) is the lorry’s weight when empty; for example, a BTM of 3,500 kg means the truck alone weighs 3,500 kg. BDM (Berat Dengan Muatan) is the maximum permitted weight of the truck plus cargo; a BDM of 7,500 kg means the total cannot exceed 7,500 kg.
For high-value goods, we recommend in-transit cargo insurance. We can advise on cover based on the value of your goods.
We serve hypermarkets and retail, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, construction materials, manufacturing and e-commerce businesses, among others.
Yes. Manpower for loading and unloading can be added to your delivery. The price depends on the location and the number of workers, so please tell us in advance when you book.
