The blockbuster movie directed by Nitesh Tiwari is based on the life of a Wrestler in Haryana named Mahavir Singh Phogat who against all odds and conventions dreams of making his daughters excel at wrestling.
Phogat acts against the norm and bears all the ridicule he receives from society for training his daughters Geeta and Bapita for the sport not very commonly opted by females.
Initially, Phogat’s decision is strongly opposed by his own daughters. Geeta and Bapita do not co-operate with their father in his decision. It is portrayed that he wants to fulfill his dreams and forces them on his daughters.
But what makes them change their mind? A young friend of both Geeta and Bapita gets married and warns them about their future which will be a disaster. She paints the picture of a married life as that of a slave working day and night at home. This frightens the girls and they opt for wrestling as an escape from an ordinary dull life.
Whatever makes them go for wrestling, Mr.Phogat finally starts training the girls. They wake up early in the morning, along with the society bashing them, they face the physical hurts during the harsh training.
In the climax, Geeta reaches the Common Wealth games and come out victorious and Mahavir Phogat finally accomplishes the dream of seeing his girls as world class wrestlers. Geeta’s victory is portrayed as Phogat’s victory and the story actually revolves around on Phogat’s dreams and ambitions.
