Kareena Kapoor on Love Jihad Cover

Kareena Kapoor Khan Appears on Controversial “Love Jihad” Cover

Indian actress and wife of famed Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan has appeared on the cover of controversial “Live Jihad” magazine. The face of the actress was reportedly morphed on VHP’s magazine that went viral on the internet soon after its publication.

Vishva Hindu Parishad’s (VHP), young women’s wing Durga Vahini has launched a campaign to “reconvert” Hindu women who married Muslim men. The latest issue of Himalaya Dhwani, a magazine brought out by the Vahini’s Northern India regional coordinator Rajni Thukral, has devoted itself to this theme with the cover of it carrying a morphed face of Kareena. Her face is half covered with a niqab and has a caption underneath that reads: “Conversion of nationality through religious conversion”.

Love jihad” is a term coined to describe an alleged plot where Muslim men lure girls of other religions to marry them and force them to convert to Islam.

In an article for the Indian Express, Saif Ali Khan revealed that he and his wife had suffered death threats and accusations of “love jihad” when they married in 2012, but said respect for all religions and love between them was the essence of India.

“We are a blend, this great country of ours. It is our differences that make us who we are. We need to get beyond mere tolerance. We need to accept and respect and love each other,” he wrote. “I am the son of a sportsman, I grew up in England, Bhopal, Pataudi, Delhi and Mumbai, and I am more Indian than any Hindu or Muslim I know because I am both.”
